Some households (and businesses) in Ireland are inundated with “junk mail” particularly those situated in towns and cities. So what is junk mail? Normally it’s mail that isn’t addressed to you and is delivered sometimes by An Post but in most instances by Direct Marketing Companies.
Examples of such mail include:
- Take away & restaurant menus
- Special offers from local businesses
- Taxi & Mini cab information
- Free Newspapers
Thousands of people never look at this information and it goes straight into the recycling bag or bin.
If you want to rid (or at least prevent) a lot of this unnecessary waste you need to:
- Put a NO JUNK MAIL Sticker on your letter box – check with the Environment Section of your local council as these are often available Free of Charge
- Junk mail that comes through the postal mail service in Ireland can be stopped or at least minimized. The Irish Direct Marketing Association (IDMA) helps residents of Ireland reduce or stop junk mail from coming to their homes. You can contact this service on 01- 8304752 or download the form from their website: www.idma.ie
- When joining clubs or filling out a survey there is usually a tick box at the bottom (please tick if you do not wish to receive further unsolicited mail) remember to tick this box to stop junk mail being sent to you
Remember – the more people that say No Junk Mail the faster the industry will adapt new marketing strategies.
